NWmax is a suite of import, export and modeling scripts and utilities for Discreet’s free gmax 3D modeling software. Unlike the previous scripts available to the community, NWmax is a no compromise full implementation of all features available to NWN 3d models. Skinmesh, Aura Lights, Emitters, animations, danglymesh… it’s all there and it exports and saves without any copy+pasting required. NWmax offers the user a suite of custom utilities to use while importing, creating and exporting NWN weapons, creatures, placeables, tiles and VFX creations.

Special Instructions
It is advisable to delete the previous version of NWmax before installing. Not doing this means a risk of using an old version of Snoop.

important:

  • A key element of the NWmax (gmax) package is NWmax Snoop.  This is the little windows program that sits in the system try and gets all that information out of the gmax Listener window.  This program has been written under Win2k and tested under Win2k/WinXP.  It does not work on Win9x.
  • Version 3.0 of the Custom Content Guide (CCG) and the video tutorials by Danmar are out of date with respect to NWmax. They refer to Wayland's discontinued script.  All references to copy/paste from the gmax Listener are obsolete. Please be aware of this when using these otherwise  useful resources.

A brief summary of the new functions:
  •   Expanded the object base types to include GUI, Door, BodyPart
  •   Animation copy mirror code completed
  •   Add anim name list on aurorabase
  •   Export/Import skinmesh weights
  •   Button to reset all bones radius on a skin to zero. Done via Weight Master utility
  •   Animation Key baker
  •   Randomise wirecolor for all or selected mesh objects
  •   Better gmax UI for setting multiple bone weights on a vertex - Weight Master
  •   Named animation loading with inserting at specified frame number
  •   Skin Dumper not working under compact mode
  •   Skin dumper to save last path state
  •   Pivot Snap in Armour Maker
  •   Standalone pivot snap tool
  •   Cryomesh now supports link only loading

NWmax (gmax/3DS max) v0.6 is finally HERE!! It took longer than I thought but I hope users will find it worth the wait. There are over 30 key alterations to the code covering bug fixes, new features and preparations for the next set of features going into the development branch. Key new features include:
  • Native support for Max 5.x and Max 6SP1. No more Snoop for Max users!
  • Better interface to Armour\Robe Maker
  • Tile group loader
  • Animation key reducer - for helping to cleanup those baked IK animations
  • GUI interface to mass load, mass export and mass sanity check

NWmax (gmax) v0.6 is getting close to release as is AuraImport v0.2.

These new versions should be available mid to late this month depending on how testing goes.   There are a couple of new tools/features in NWmax  and fixes for a range of "bugs" that have been found over the last couple of months.

NWmax v0.5 is released!  This version has a number of new features and numerous bug fixes. But the highlights for v0.5 are:
  • A new compressed export format to the listener resulting in an average export speed increase of SIX times faster
  • New Armour and Robe Maker utility. This allows the automatice generation of other the other race models from your base pmh0, pmf0, pmh2 and pmf2 robe models
  • A new Monster Node creation tool to provide convenient support for this new HotU feature
  • Big imporvements in the import code for dealing with skins
  • Support for Aurora Light lens flare properties

A new directory is available in the download section. This will contain pre release updated/ patched versions of individual files that make up NWmax.  These files will embody all the latest fixes and some new enhancements as they are created and have passed internal unit testing.  So if you have a bug which has been published as fixed or you just want to live on the bleeding edge then check out the date of files in NWmax Patched
